Scottsdale, AZ ~ Back in the 90’s, I had the honor of working with Dave Brubeck at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Dave always treated this Okie photographer with kindness and respect – the consummate professional.
Dave Brubeck was a musical pioneer, proving that a song with 5 beats in it and one with 9 beats in it could become popular, with Take 5 and Blue Rondo à la Turk. As Bill Clinton quipped, “Once I was able to play ‘Take Five’, I knew I was well on my way to learning to play the saxophone”.
We were so lucky to have had him for as long as we did and will never forget his musical gifts as a pianist and composer, his kindness, his generosity, and his smile. Dave Brubeck would have turned 92 on Thursday. David Warren “Dave” Brubeck (December 6, 1920 – December 5, 2012)
