SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Monsoon season was in full effect this past week as the Valley was soaked by summer rains. Residents of the East Valley were particularly impacted by Saturday’s storm, as more than an inch of rain came down in Mesa in just 30 minutes. Fortunately, the Monsoons leave as quickly as they come. A beautiful full moon adds a calming serenity to the post-storm scene at Camelback Mountain in East Phoenix.

In Arizona, as in other regions of the world including India and Thailand, we experience a monsoon, a season of high temperatures, high winds, and high moisture, resulting in potentially deadly weather. The term “monsoon” comes from the Arabic “mausim” meaning “season” or “wind shift.”
