Monterey, California –Theodore Walter “Sonny” Rollins (born September 7, 1930 in New York City) is the most exciting American jazz tenor saxophonist I have had the honor of hearing and photographing. Sonny Rollins is widely recognized as one of the most important and influential jazz musicians. Sonny’s outstanding jazz standards, including “St. Thomas”, “Oleo”, “Doxy”, and “Airegin”, have graced the main stage of the Monterey Jazz Festival for the past four decades.
I always enjoy the family atmosphere and the host of music legends and characters at The Festival – the weather’s great, it’s right by the ocean and very relaxing (once we get beyond client demands!:)
